Reducing Childcare Costs
Free Entitlement
From September 2010 the free entitlement for Pre-school children (formerly Nursery Education Grant) has changed and we are able to provide extended and more flexible fully funded sessions. The sessions have been extended to provide 15 hours per week over 38 weeks in the year.
How will it work for my child?
The standard free session of 2½ hours will now be 3 hours.
Morning sessions will run from 9.30am to 12.30pm
Afternoon sessions will run from 1.30pm to 4.30pm
Instead of 5 sessions per week the entitlement can be varied to fit your requirements provided it is taken over at
least 3 days in the week with a minimum session of 3 hours and a maximum of 9 hours
We are offering a range of sessions between 8.30am and 5.30pm between 3 and 9 hours per day to cater for a wide range of needs.
You can now include the lunch session between 12.30pm and 1.30pm as part of your entitlement. There will be an additional charge of £1.95 for a nourishing lunch. If you do not wish to pay for lunch we will discuss the alternative of a packed lunch with you.
Am I restricted to school term time?
No. We provide childcare and education for 50 weeks each year apart from Public Holidays so you can access free sessions during half term or school holidays if this suits you better.
Can my child attend Pre-school for your normal sessions and still benefit from the free entitlement?
Yes, many children do this. We will credit the full value of your free sessions at the same hourly rate as your normal fees against your monthly account so you will only pay for the extra care/ meals provided.
Are there any other rules?
You can only access the free entitlement at a maximum of two settings at any one time. You cannot swap your entitlement between settings during any term.
Children attending Hornby Day Nursery must do so for a minimum of two sessions per week.
A parental agreement is set up to cover the agreed free entitlement.

Childcare Vouchers
Hornby Day Nursery accepts all recognised childcare vouchers as way of part payment of fees.
If your employer operates a childcare voucher scheme, you can save National Insurance and Income Tax. By
registering for your employer's scheme, over £55 a week can be deducted from your salary and used to provide
childcare vouchers for the same amount. This amount, which is deducted from your gross salary, is then paid directly from your salary, before National Insurance and Income Tax is deducted. As a basic-rate tax payer, using childcare vouchers could save you up to £962 a year, whilst higher rate tax payers can save up to £1,196. Vouchers can be used by both parents, so families can save over £2,000 each year combined!
